I plan to read a biography of Colette next, which should provide more insight into her novels as I steadily work my way through her body of work. Minimum repeat order is 30 units. There are some hilariously concise descriptions of such occurrences as barely stifled laughs, conspiratorial glances, and little gloaty "I know something" dances. Claudine pushs back against those who are impressing morality upon her without living moral lives Claudine at school. Everyone is silent downstairs as the elder Sergent yells at her daughter for disgracing the family by sleeping with the superintendent of the school district.
It was not a very well kept secret that most of these works had been improved by other hands, if not entirely ghostwritten. Not that I've read any Proust hah but I have heard his name a LOT whereas I had never heard Collette's before the film with Keira Knightley came out.
"I think that only God and maybe Alfred Dreyfus are as famous as [Willy]," said Sacha Guitry. Whenever the District Superintendent Dutertre visits, he is very attentive to her. While Claudine is a bit of a brat, you cannot help but love her. She wrote an advice column for a women's magazine.
Colette made Claudine a storyteller to rival Scheherazade herself! Make sure to check out the , too.
Regarding the issue of translation, although there are minor errors, none of them making reading it difficult.
Her youthful love affairs and flirtations almost reads like caricatures and it's easy to see why this book caused such a riot when it was first published.
