I didn't really like it, I just found it boring and uneventful, and the writing style was plain. A "townie" visiting for the holidays, Benny must accept the challenges Benny, a sports-obsessed, carefree kid, is convinced that he can take on the world-until he spends the summer living with his grandfather and meets resident tomboy and all-around tough-girl Babe Meara.
Benny and Babe's business seems to be going well until they meet Furty Howlin, an old friend back from reforming school and an unpleasant person to deal with. But things become very complicated, and dangerous, when the troublesome Furty Howlin wants a slice of the action. They do not store any personal information, and are not shared with any third parties.
When he was reading Babe's parts he seemed to do better. He goes to a school for international kids run by two ex-hippies, he gets radical sunburn and most of all he meets a local kid called Omar. Sometimes I couldn't actually even follow it, and other times I just thought it was improbable that Omar would be able to communicate in catch phrases from television if they were literally the only English he knew. Babe is the village tomboy, given serious respect by the all the local tough guys.
But it doesn't really hit home until the day Omar takes him to see his sister, who is restrained to a bed and drugged out of her mind at the local psychiatric institution. He does an excellent job of showing truly Benny and Babe lives and difficult life situations.
The best character in Benny and Babe story is the villain, named Furty. I enjoyed the story, but it is so full of Irish slang that I had to really concentrate at times.
he's good at it, witty. How is he going to cope. There were just some weird choices made by the way the story was told, not the way the characters showed their values. Babe is the village tomboy, given serious respect by the all the local tough guys.
Will Benny survive this new lifestyle? , there are a few points where things feel a bit wrong.
It wasn't terrible, but yeah I didn't enjoy it.
