My Ten Tors teammates would always go on at me and say that this is the worst checkpoint you could get. Fortunately, there have been no such recent reports! However, the ancient woodland is making a comeback thanks to restoration projects by the National and Woodland Trusts.
The unique Church of St Michel de Rupe, the Brentor village chruch, makes for a unique landmark in the Dartmoor skyline. A variety of teas, cocoa and coffee are available.
Dependant upon the duration available for hiking we sometimes host one large social hike so that everyone has the chance to meet. Headless horsemen, a dragon, ghostly hounds, pixies, disembodied hands and the devil himself have all made appearances in the area — so beware! or East Tor Called East Tor by Terry Bound, referred to Crossing.
An example of where this is the case is Vixen Tor, the most famous forbidden tor on the moor that can be viewed from its border-wall.
To walk up Brent Tor, start from the church car park PL19 0NP and follow the footpath to the top. The early morning sun in this area is particularly beautiful. Taw Plain with its waterways is laid out, map-like, below, the natural beauty of the wide basin being much enhanced by the steep rise from its verges of majestic hills. I would choose van life over a car and hotel every time.
Ben jij een echte avonturier, ga dan met je ouders naar Cornwall, Dartmoor en Exmoor, land van paarse hei, rode kliffen en blauwe zee.
Some are big — High Willhays 621m is the tallest.
