The George Cross was left on the square till the evening when during a short ceremony it was carried away to safe custody. We are aware that once again we are going to clash with Easter, so we are trying to organise the programme to avoid members having unnecessary expense. Pilot Officer John Bisley of 126 Squadron Malta George Cross combat with Me 109s from JG-53 during one of the intense aerial air battles over Valetta in April 1942.

This opportunity was availed of to convey to Malta the George Cross and the King's handwritten message, which were entrusted to Lord Gort. In the meantime, the Governor appointed a committee to make proposals as to the form that the presentation ceremony should take. Italy and Germany besieged Malta, then a British colony, from 1940 to 1942. This documentary on DVD deals with the harsh realities of World War II as seen in the eyes of a child who recalls hardships, poverty, friendships and death.

Figures for the period from 24 March to 12 April show 1,869 tons of bombs were dropped on the Grand Harbour and 162 hours were spent under air raid alerts with much of that time underground. Prints signed by legendary night fighter teams that participated in Malta. The George Cross Island Association Originally came into being to commemorate and bring together veterans and families of the Siege of Malta 1940 to 1943 and particularly those who took part in the Pedestal Convoy so that comrades and friends could share their experiences.

This is an excellent opportunity for collectors to acquire a unique piece of aviation history. The Luftwaffe were diverted to other areas of the war. The date was the 63rd anniversary of the arrival of the last surviving ship of the convoy at that provided critical supplies during the siege.


Yesterday many of us would have gathered at the Siege Bell for the commemorative service of the award of the George Cross to the brave people of Malta. This documentary on DVD deals with the harsh realities of World War II as seen in the eyes of a child who recalls hardships, poverty, friendships and death. The British colony in the Mediterranean is of crucial strategic importance to the Allied North African campaign and has been under almost constant attack from Italian and German aircraft since June 1940.
